Good day. Welcome to 2017. We hope you and yours enjoyed the holidays and are well entering this new year.
DTSKCK begins January with the In-the-Know Luncheon series. This month’s topic is the Unified Government’s new Open Data Portal, what it means for WyCo, and how you can use it to improve or grow your organization or business. Our featured speaker is the UG’s Chief Knowledge Officer, Alan Howze. Luncheon cost is $20. You can register and pay online on our website. BPU hosts the luncheon which is Friday, January 13.
For 2017 our focus continues to be the improvement of Downtown. Three major areas of effort are the Downtown Improvement District, or SSMID, economic and business development, and increasing housing choices.
We have been awarded a 5-year contract to manage the Downtown Improvement District, or SSMID program, keeping Downtown cleaner and safer through cleaning and security ambassadors. We will be publishing an RFP in March for those contracted services. Watch this space for more details.
Business retention and recruitment through our Small Business Program continue into 2017. Grants are available for a variety of purposes including, but not limited to, our 90 day Pop-Up program, increasing inventory, machine purchases, and marketing efforts. The application can be found on our website.
Increasing housing choices rounds out our 2017 focus. Partnerships are being developed to increase workforce housing and address student homelessness. Again, watch this space for details about these projects.
2017 will be a breakout year for Downtown Kansas City, Kansas. You can help make that happen. Come be a part and make a difference. Come see why Downtown KCK is everyone’s Downtown.
