The next phase of the Modular Business Incubator has launched!
The Unified Government approved the rezoning of the CHWC property in mid-January, so construction can begin. The design-build team has purchased a used shipping container, and is currently drawing up building plans, planning community engagement meetings, and mastering non-traditional construction methods.
Our first community engagement event will be Tuesday, February 13, from 5:00 to 6:30 PM, at the Community Health Council of Wyandotte County, 803 Armstrong Ave. We would love to see you there, so you can see our progress, share your ideas, and help us find our first participants!
The students are hard at work. Plans must be approved by not only the Building Inspector, but also by the Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) board (a division of the Planning Commission) to ensure that the unit meets both building and life safety codes and design standards that fit in the neighborhood.
One-day Small Business training sessions, held in conjunction with the regional Small Business Administration and Workforce Partnership, will be held later this month (February 16 and 22). These workshops are focused on helping new entrepreneurs develop working business plans that will help them succeed.
We are also actively recruiting operators for the incubator, starting in the late spring/early summer. If you, or someone you know, is interested in developing their artisan-focused small business, please take a look at our Pop-Up page. We will be thrilled to talk about the opportunity and accept applications.
We look forward to seeing you!
