EPA Local Air Quality Project

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) needs your help with a Citizen Science air quality research project in the Turner, Argentine, and Armourdale neighborhoods.  The Kansas City Transportation and Air Quality Study project (KC TRAQS) invites residents or groups to check out handheld air monitors called, “AirMappers” and record air quality data in their neighborhood.

  • AirMappers are small air monitors that collect air particulate levels, CO2, noise level, latitude, longitude, date, time, temperature and humidity.
  • You can check out these AirMappers right now from either the Argentine (South Branch) or Turner Community libraries for a week at time or you can call the EPA to check them out in groups.
  • AirMappers are easy to use and do not require any training (all you have to do is turn them on).
