Downtown Spotlight from Jason - September 18, 2018

Our busy September continues this weekend! Please come join us for the 2018 Latino Arts Festival! The festival will be held in the parking a lot at 5th and Minnesota, across from the Reardon/Hilton/BPU. There will be many young and emerging artists with their works on display, Children’s Art and entertainment, live music and performances, and a Lowrider Car Show, which was a huge hit last year. It promises to be bigger and better than last year, so please come out and support us.

I did want to take a moment and note how many different people it takes to put on an event like this, and thank them in advance for all they do. This event wouldn’t be possible without financial sponsors, like our own Bank of Labor and El Centro. Putting it on this year in the parking lot has brought together many different departments and parts of the Unified Government, from Parks to Public Works, from the BPU to the Police and Fire Departments. It takes a huge crew of people and organizations to come together just to organize an event like this one, and I am deeply appreciative of all they do.

Lastly (and most importantly), these events take many hours of volunteer time. Dedicated individuals give of their own time and energies to support this festival and what it does for artists in our community. Almost all of them do it with little notice and no glory (and certainly no money). But it’s those efforts that elevate our special events, and make our community shine brightly.

Again, thank you to those who give their time and effort and money to this Festival and Downtown KCK. You have my deep appreciation.
