Downtown Spotlight from Jason - September 4, 2018
Greetings! I hope everyone had a fun and safe Labor Day weekend. September promises to be a very busy month Downtown, with events packing the calendar, and I hope everyone can make time to attend. First up is our DashKCK 5K on September 15. The race starts at 8:30 am, and is just $20 to enter. You can sign up at www.dashkck.com, or look for a link on our Facebook page. Immediately after running, you can visit Library in the Park, held at Big 11 Lake, where you can check out library services and activities, sample some tacos, and then vote on your favorite! It’s free to all (including tacos), and runs from 10-2 on that Saturday.
September 22 brings the Latino Arts Festival back to Downtown! We have lots of local and young artists, food trucks and entertainment scheduled from 1-6pm at the parking lot at 5th and Minnesota. In addition to all that, come see one of Kansas City’s largest assembly of low riders, including show cars from as far away as Las Vegas. The cars were a huge hit last year, and this year promises to be bigger and better.
Finally, the Unified Government is putting on Blocktoberfest on Friday, September 28 from 1-9pm. The UG will make a few changes in the streetscape on 6th between Ann and Tauromee to show how easy it can be to have bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly features on our streets, plus local vendors and stores will have food, beer and entertainment on the street. It should be lots of fun, and a good view of changes we hope will make Downtown and all our neighborhoods safer and more accessible to walkers, runners and bikers.
This is as busy a month for events Downtown as we have ever had. Please join us.
