Downtown Spotlight from Jason - March 5, 2019

The end of winter is a slow time for happenings. This winter has been even slower, because we’ve been buried under snow and ice for about…(checks notes)…327 years now. But just because it’s slow doesn’t mean nothing is happening.

February 7 saw the Grand Opening Ceremony for the Kansas City Kansas Police Athletic League. The PAL restored the St. Mary’s Church at 5th and Ann Avenue in Strawberry Hill, and will be serving dozens of local youth through boxing, acrobatic dance, and a community garden (assuming we ever escape winter). Not only will the PAL really help KCK kids, it serves as a great example of reuse of historic buildings that we treasure in Downtown KCK.

A block away, Sarah’s On The Hill has been teasing social media about its pending opening. At the corner of 5th and Barnett, Sarah’s promises to make your mouth water with homemade comfort food. Keep an eye on their facebook page to find out when they open and add another flavor to the Downtown KCK food scene.

There are a number of other projects in process, but they are either too early or too private to share right now. But I predict that 2019 will have plenty of new businesses and happenings to celebrate in Downtown.

And eventually, winter has to end. Right?
