Downtown Update from Jason - May 28, 2019

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day. It’s important to take time during our long weekend to reflect on those who died in service to our country. We honor their sacrifice.

DTS is very excited to share that, finally, our Mobile Business Incubator building has arrived! It nestled into its spot at 6th and Tauromee last week. There are some pictures here, and I encourage you all to swing by to check it out! It will host a series of small businesses on a short-term basis to allow them to experiment with a physical retail presence at very low risk. We are thankful to LISC for their generosity in helping fund the container conversion, and to Dotte Agency for their work (through the KU School of Architecture and Design) in bringing the idea to life. We have a little more work to do before it’s ready to host the first business, but we can see the finish (start?) line from here. If you have or know of a business that is interested in exploring our space (to be called Epic Art Shop), please contact me and we can work on the application.

Whenever a business has something to celebrate Downtown, we love to share. Chips & Coins on Minnesota is finishing up their expansion. The extra space will allow them to have more seating and dining options, as well as give them more room for all the store items we know them for. Chips & Coins is a wonderful success story, and deserve to be celebrated for that success in downtown. Come join them on June 7th from 4pm to 7pm to celebrate the opening of their new area.
