Job Alert: Compassionate Ear Warmline Operator, MHAH
Mental Health America of the Heartland requires two or more responsible individuals to provide non-clinical peer support to people with mental illness by answering calls to our peer-operated support line. Primary duties include offering non-crisis supportive listening, coping strategies, information, and reprieve from loneliness and isolation. A typical evening would be answering 6-7 calls during a 3-hour shift.
The Compassionate Ear Warmline operates daily (Sunday through Saturday) during the hours of 4:00pm to 10:00pm. These jobs offer some flexibility with regard to work schedule within the hours of operation and the convenience of working from your own home; calls to the line are forwarded to the Warmline Operator's home but personal telephone numbers are blocked and not visible to the caller. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, compassionate and reliable.
Qualified applicants must have:
- Personal working telephone service
- GED or high school diploma, required; some post-secondary education, preferred
- Personal lived experience of recovery from mental illness, required
- written and verbal communication skills, necessary; ability to complete client documentation and proficiency with Microsoft Office and Excel, required
