Newsletter Feature from Chuck - June 13, 2017
Good day. Welcome to this June edition of our newsletter. This time we share with you a visit by a senator’s aid, the Latino Art Festival, and banners by the Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID), and the Kansas City, Kansas Board of Public Utilities. Josh Yurek, of Senator Pat Roberts’ office, recently toured Downtown KCK. The tour started at the KC Cupcake Company and was organized by Local Initiative Support Corporation of Greater Kansas City (LISC). Pictured, from left to right, are Stephen Samuels, LISC Executive Director; Greg Gant, KC Cupcake Company owner; Josh Yurek of Roberts’ office; Ina Anderson, LISC Senior Program Officer. We appreciate DTSKCK and Downtown being involved in the tour and the KC Cupcake Company making an after-hours effort to be open. Thanks, Stephen and Ina.
If you missed the June 3 Latino Art Festival and Parade, you missed a great opportunity to know more about and better appreciate Latino culture. Since a picture is worth 1,000 words, I will simply say approximately 1200 people attended this first-time event. Organizers included DTSKCK, El Centro, Hallmark Inc., Bank of Labor, and the KCK Chamber. Enjoy the pictures found at this link.
And many, many thanks to the BPU for the removal of old, and placement of new, Downtown banners. Pictured is Eric Smith of BPU who has been very gracious and accommodating in working with me on the banner project. Thanks to Don Gray, Eric, BPU, and the SSMID Advisory Board for making this project possible.
Summer is off to a wonderful start with Downtown welcoming a festival, new banners, new faces, and new businesses. Come see what’s happening in Downtown KCK. Come be part of the energy and renewal. Come see why our Downtown is everyone’s Downtown.
