June 29, 2017 Quarterly Meeting with the Kansas City, Kansas Police DepartmentHello friends, From everyone at DTSKCK, we hope you're keeping cool. Wyandotte County and the surrounding Metropolitan area remain under a heat advisory until Wednesday, July 12 at 7 PM. If you work or spend lots of time outside, be sure to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Also, keep an eye on the health and wellness of your friends and neighbors - especially our elderly residents. For more information about staying safe, visit the National Weather Service's Heat Safety Tips page.

Speaking of the heat, we would like to extend our thanks to the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department's Deputy Chief York and Officer Ortego for joining us at our Quarterly Meeting at Bank of Labor on June 29. Your willingness to engage the community is what makes our local department fantastic.  Thank you also to Bank of Labor for providing an event space, refreshments, and a light meal.

Thus far, summer has been chocked-full of exciting community events, and there's plenty more to come. Our next Food Truck Friday is July 14 at KCKPL's Main Branch. We've invited the Mobile Library and local favorite Polar Oasis. Why a dessert truck? Because having shaved ice, sundaes, floats, fresh-squeezed lemonade, iced tea, and novelty treats for lunch on a Friday is completely acceptable. We'll see you between 11:30 and 1:00 PM in the parking lot between the library and beautiful Huron Park.

If delicious food isn't necessarily your thing, that's okay. This week is also Wyandotte County's Annual Fair. Founded in 1863, this community event continues a tradition of family fun, live music, carnival rides, and more. For a full list of activities and hours of operation, visit the WyCo Fair website.

On a final note, we'd like to bring your attention to an especially interesting event designed to showcase and promote the awesome things in #OurKCK: Travel KS and VisitKCK's July 22 Instameet. Experience a behind-the-scenes tour at Children's Mercy Park (home of Sporting KC), explore Downtown KCK's vibrant murals, check out the secluded Rosedale Arch, hike a bit of the beautiful Kaw Point, and wrap up the day with an Instagram-worthy party. What could possibly be cooler? Having your photos featured in national advertising. To learn more about this event and get registered, click here. We'll see you there!

As you may have guessed, there's more, but we'll leave it at that until next time.
