Unified Government of KCK Launches Public Records Portal
The Unified Government launched a new online portal March 1st, 2017 that makes the fulfillment of public records request easier and more transparent, the first of its kind in Kansas.
“The Unified Government is required by the Kansas Open Records Act to provide records that already exist. I believe that public records are the most useful when properly formatted and easily accessible to everyone,” says Mayor Holland. “I’m excited about the implementation of this new open records portal that will help streamline the process of fulfilling request across city and county departments.”
Available at wycokck.nextrequest.com, the NextRequest-powered transparency portal gives the public unprecedented access:
- to conveniently submit, track, and browse public record requests online;
- receive automatic updates regarding their request; and
- download documents;
The Unified Government receives an average of 400 requests each year. For the first time, visitors to the city/county website will have access to a searchable database of previously released documents at your fingertips. This ensures that once a government document has been made public once, anyone will have access to it. You may even find what you're looking for without having to submit a new request!
NextRequest makes public records easier for governments to provide and the public to access. Founded in 2015 by three former Code for America fellows, NextRequest is used by governments throughout the U.S.
