This Weekend in Downtown KCK - April 30, 2016

If you're looking for something fun to do on Saturday April 30, we have two awesome events to keep you entertained: . . . . .

8th Street YMCA Healthy Kids Day

Saturday, April 30 | 10:00AM to 1:00PM

Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out and grow. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the body and mind ends with the school year. In fact, research shows that kids are prone to gain weight and fall behind in studies. On April 30th, the Y will celebrate Healthy Kids Day®, our national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids.

Join us at the 8th Street Family YMCA as we celebrate YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day® with a free community event to get kids moving, learning, and families living healthier. Enjoy FREE health screenings, FREE haircuts and resourceful vendors.  For additional event information, check out our calendar of events.

On Saturday, April 30 Friends of the Kaw invites the community to celebrate Clean Water Green Earth at a festival from 1 to 4pm at Kaw Point Park – just southeast of 1411 Fairfax Traffic Way, in Kansas City, KS. Enjoy refreshments, free boat rides on the Kansas River, live music, children activities, informational booths, a raffle for a free rain barrel and much, much more!!!!

This festival is being organized by student interns from Wyandotte High School and J.C. Harmon High School. The eleven interns were hired by Friends of the Kaw for an EPA Environment Justice Small Grant. Interns will demonstrate water quality tests that they have mastered and taught to adult volunteers. Other community groups will also have exhibits celebrating clean water and a healthy environment.
