Strawberry Hill Rummage Sale

Saturday, July 9 | 8:00AM - 4:00PM Strawberry Hill Museum and Cultural Center 720 North 4th Street Kansas City, KS 66101 Strawberry Hill Rummage Sale The Strawberry Hill Ethnic Cultural Society was formed in 1988 to promote, sponsor and preserve the ethnic heritage prevalent in Kansas City, Kansas. The Cultural Center is located in the 1887 high Victorian home, built for John and Mary Scroggs. It was one of the most outstanding examples of the Queen Anne style to be erected in Kansas City, Kansas. In 1919, the Scrogg’s Mansion was purchased by the St. John’s Orphanage. The orphanage was in existence for 69 years. In 1988, the Orphanage was purchased by the Strawberry Hill Ethnic Cultural Society and became the Strawberry Hill Museum and Cultural Center.

Saturday, July 9 is the Annual Rummage sale for the Historic Strawberry Hill Community. The event runs from 8:00AM to 4:00PM. Items in this year's sale include:

  • Womens Clothing
  • Baby girls clothing
  • Shoes
  • Furniture
  • Household items--lamps, canning jars, vases, linens, etc...
  • Books
  • Other baby items

All items are priced to sell, so act quickly.  After you've spent a little time at the sale, take a moment to stop by the museum (last tour at 4:15PM).

Jersey Creek Walking Club

Saturday, July 9 | 10:00AM - 11:00AM Heathwood Park 10th and Parallel Parkway Kansas City, KS 66104 13124593_1130972076926190_459549962039939788_nPhysical activity is anything that gets your body moving.  According to the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, you need to do two types of physical activity each week to improve your health-aerobic and muscle-strengthening.

Adults need at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity every week, and children should get at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day.

Thanks to The Friends of Jersey Creek and the Historic Northeast-Midtown Association, being healthy and making new friends has never been easier! We encourage you to meet-up with these great folks for their weekly walk; enjoy this beautiful weather; and experience all of the improvements being made Downtown firsthand!

La Placita Central Avenue Market

Saturday, July 9 | 11:00AM - 3:00PM Bethany Park 1120 Central Avenue Kansas City, KS 66102 La Placita Central Avenue Market Our friends at the Central Avenue Betterment Association have been working hard to revitalize Bethany Park. In 2013, Graduate students from KU's School of Architecture surveyed residents of the Central Avenue area. Community members were asked to highlight their likes and dislikes as they relate to the Central Avenue area in general. From this data, Bethany Park earned the sad title of "least liked" place in the neighborhood.

To counter this perception and make Bethany Park a place the community could enjoy, CABA created a series of events centered in and around the park. We know them generally as La Placita Central Avenue Market.

La Placita features vendors, entertainment, and the opportunity for members of the community to connect. The potential for the success of La Placita is great, and we believe the energy generated during the monthly events will inspire even more.

La Placita is an excellent way to bring communities together, and we want you to be a part of it!

If you or your organization are interested in contributing to the revitalization of Bethany Park, contact CABA.

Sounds like a great Saturday Downtown!  If your group or organization would like to promote some of your own Downtown events, feel free to contact us.
