Shepherd's Center Biscuits & Gravy Fundraiser

Shepherd's Center Shepherd's Center of Kansas City, Kansas invites you to join them Saturday May 7 from 8AM to 11AM for a delicious Biscuits & Gravy fundraiser. $8.00 includes 2 biscuits with gravy, hash brown, sausage, and your choice of juice or coffee.

Shepherd's Center is an interfaith, multicultural nonprofit organization that promotes and supports successful aging. Shepherd's Center provides multiple services that reach more than 1,200 people in Wyandotte County, focusing on health enrichment, education and home services. These programs and services include:

  • Adventures in Learning: A monthly learning series held at Grace Lutheran Church (3333 Wood Ave, KCK) on the third Friday of every month.
  • Creative Classes: Classes that focus on the arts, life skills and special interest topics.
  • Health Screenings and Classes: Monthly blood pressure checks, and monthly and weekly exercise opportunities.
  • Vial of Life: A program that provides important information for medical personnel in the event of an emergency.
  • Minor Repair and Referral Services: Volunteers help with minor home repair for older persons.
  • Friends for Seniors: A friendly visitor program for homebound older adults.
  • Caring Calls: Volunteers who make weekly calls to homebound seniors.

Shepherd's Center partners with local congregations and numerous agencies within Wyandotte County, and is unique in that it is predominantly directed by volunteers.

Built on Our Backs: Race & Reparations

Radish KCKBlack people in America have endured some of the most egregious harms in this country's history. In 2016, the long-lasting effects of the enslavement of African people, are still negatively impacting Black Americans, in education, politics, healthcare, criminal justice, the debt-wealth gap, housing, food access, jobs and more. Can reparations offer a feasible solution to some of the systemic racial issues facing America? What would it look like?

Meet the Speaker: Britt Coleman, JD, was born and raised in Kansas City, MO. She is a community organizer with One Struggle KC. 2016 Cinco de Mayo Weekend Fiesta

Saturday, May 7 | 10:00AM - 7:00PM

It’s fiesta time again in our town along the Kaw River and Community of Argentine, Kansas. This year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration will be held at 30th and Strong Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. (Next to Wolfburgers Cafe) on the weekend of May 7th from 10:00AM to 7:00PM.

The festivals and Fiestas in our region have always been an exciting and memorable time to embrace family and friends once again and relive old memories from the past. This year, 32 vendors have signed up for our event and over a dozen classic cars have registered for the Fiesta in our Community. A free Moonwalk and other activities await the children in our region; and a renowned D.J. and three exciting bands with many folkloric singers and dancers will highlight this years’ Fiesta of the Heartland.

An awards ceremony is planned at 1:15pm. We invite everyone to attend this year’s fiesta, so please forward this event to family and friends everywhere. For location information, check out our calendar of events.
