I-435 & I-70 Interchange Multi-Bridge Repair Project in Wyandotte County
On Sunday, May 8, weather permitting, a multi-bridge repair project will begin on the I-435 bridges at the I-70 interchange in Kansas City, Kan. (Wyandotte County). Project work includes bridge deck patching, replacement of the approach pavement on both ends of the bridges, and replacement of the expansion joints on the bridge deck. Work will take place daily, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
Beginning at 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 8, northbound and southbound I-435 from north of I-70 to south of I-70 over the bridges will be reduced to two open lanes, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. There will be a 60 mph posted speed limit and an 11-foot width restriction, 24/7 round the clock, through the work zone throughout the project duration.
At the same time on Sunday, May 8, the following I-435 and I-70 interchange ramps will be closed, 24/7 round the clock, throughout the project duration. A marked detour for each ramp will be provided as follows:
- Eastbound I-70 to northbound I-435 ramp closed. Marked detour via eastbound I-70 to 78th Street exit back to westbound I-70 to access northbound I-435.
- Northbound I-435 to westbound I-70 ramp closed. Marked detour via northbound I-435 to westbound State Avenue back to southbound I-435 to access westbound I-70
- Westbound I-70 to southbound I-435 ramp closed. Marked detour via westbound I-70 to northbound I-435 to westbound State Avenue to access southbound I-435. A suggested secondary detour route via 110th Street back to eastbound I-70 to 78th Street exit back to westbound I-70 to northbound I-435 to westbound State Avenue to access southbound I-435.
Advance message boards will alert drivers to the ramp closures. Drivers should expect delays, must allow extra time during their daily commutes and use alternate routes during the ramp closures.
